SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – South Lake Tahoe announced the appointment of Michael Nakama as the city’s new director of finance Wednesday.
“Michael’s strong and diverse private sector financial management experience, coupled with a Stanford University MBA, makes him a perfect fit for the immediate and long-term financial stewardship needs of the City,” according to a statement from the city.
Nakama has previously worked for private sector corporations, including Southern California Edison, UNIFI Companies and American Gulf and Airport Corporation.
“Michael’s strengths in financial forecasting, budgeting, capital financing, airports, and financial information systems will be a great asset to the City, as it pursues a course of living within its means and addressing the service and capital needs of the community,” according to the statement.
Nakama will take over as finance director Monday. He replaces MaryAnne Brand, who was serving as interim finance director following the departure of Christine Vuletich for a position in Douglas County in February.
