City snow removal map goes live
November 16, 2012
South Lake Tahoe successfully launched an interactive snow removal map on the city’s website this week, according to a Friday statement.
Updates to the snow removal map are provided as streets are plowed every eight, 16 and 24 hours following a storm.
GPS tracking units were installed in city snow plows last winter, but technical issues prevented the system from going live until this fall due to issues with inconsistent phone signals in the Lake Tahoe Basin, according to the statement.
A trial run this week was viewed as a huge success after the map tracked and displayed mock snow removal activity.
The city reminds residents to park all vehicles out of the city right of way when snow conditions exist. Mailboxes and trash cans should also be placed as far back from the roadway as possible.
