WINNEMUCCA, Nev. (AP) – A man was arrested Saturday after authorities said he led them on a 100-plus-mile chase on Interstate 80 that ended in a fiery crash of a carjacked vehicle near Winnemucca.
Churchill County Sheriff Ben Trotter says the chase began Saturday morning after an elderly couple stopped to help the driver of a pickup that crashed on I-80 east of Fernley. The pickup was later reported stolen out of Rancho Cordova, Calif.
The driver is accused of overpowering the couple and driving away in their car eastbound at speeds of over 100 mph.
The chase ended more than 110 miles later when the suspect crashed the car in Humboldt County.
The suspect, whose name wasn’t immediately released, was taken into custody.
Trotter says charges are pending against the suspect.
