County library gets computer catalog

Tahoe Daily Tribune

The El Dorado County Library has a new computer system and online catalog. Using the new catalog, which is called iBistroª, patrons have the ability to renew items online as well as place holds on favorite titles. Patrons can search the library’s catalog, locate Web sites that have been examined and classified by professional librarians, view bestseller lists and discover which titles, subjects and authors are most popular in the library this month.

When patrons conduct a catalog search at the electronic library many titles in the results list will include an online book review, table of contests, author biography and cover image. For books that are available but currently checked out, patrons can determine the estimated waiting period before placing an online hold.

In addition to accessing all these resources from one location, patrons can create their own personal accounts with the library and indicate topics or authors that are of interest just to them. The library will e-mail patrons when materials on these topics become available. It’s like having a librarian right at your computer.

Visit the library’s Web site at http://www.eldoradolibrary.org/ and click on Search the Library Catalog to give iBistroªs a try. For more information call the library at (530) 621-5540.
