NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. — A woman whose body was found Monday morning off Interstate 80 near Truckee has been identified, and her death has been ruled a homicide.

Fire and medical personnel responded to a call at about 6:20 a.m. of a body in the road under the interstate overpass at Farad Road, said Nevada County Sheriff’s Capt. Jeff Pettitt.

The woman was identified Wednesday as Felicia Spruell-Jones, 46, of Reno.

The Farad off-ramp was closed for several hours Monday, and the state Department of Justice crime lab was called out, along with detectives from the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit.

On Wednesday, an autopsy was conducted and the cause of death has been ruled to be gunshot wounds, Pettitt said, declining to provide any other specifics.

Detectives believe Spruell-Jones was killed Monday morning, but were still determining whether she was shot where she was found or dumped there, Pettitt said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Major Crimes Unit at 530-265-1263.
