South Lake Tahoe food poisoner attacks officer in jail
December 12, 2016
The man charged with putting a bleach-like substance on food in two South Lake Tahoe establishments is now facing additional charges after attacking a prison officer with a makeshift weapon.
On Dec. 4, Harry Dally allegedly crafted a weapon while in El Dorado County Jail and attacked the correctional officer on duty.
The officer did not sustain any injuries, said officials at the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department.
The 43-year-old South Lake Tahoe resident was arrested on Nov. 22, and originally charged with a single felony count of intentionally dispensing a contaminating substance capable of causing death or injury on food items at Raley’s.
On Nov. 29, Dally was charged with two more felony counts — one for an additional instance of food tampering at Raley’s and another for the same crime at Baja Fresh Mexican Grill.
So far three victims have alerted police of suffering from symptoms of food poisoning after eating at Baja Fresh on Nov. 19, including a 12-year-old who was hospitalized.
South Lake Tahoe Police Department spokesman Lt. Brian Williams said that they are still waiting for official confirmation on what substance Dally allegedly put on food at the two Crescent V Shopping Center establishments.
The substance has been sent to a FBI lab in St. Louis for analysis, and the results are expected out sometime in February.
Dally’s bail is now set at $370,000 — $50,000 for the recent assault charge, $310,000 for the food tampering and $10,000 for his parole violation related to a previous DUI charge.
Dally is set to appear in court on Jan. 9.
