The Vikings cross-country team steamrolled its competition at the Sparks Railroader Invitational last weekend.

The girls cross-country team charged in for a sixth place finish out of 12 teams. The boys turned in an eighth-place finish out of 16 teams Friday, Oct. 12.

Tyler Myers and Dylan Maxwell led the South Tahoe boys with speedy 5K times. Myers placed 22nd, and Maxell 23rd out of 185 runners, both averaging 6:07 minute miles. The boys boasted six runners in the top 100.

The girls had 15 runners place in the top 100, but it was freshman Riley Rettig who led the team.

“Freshman Riley Rettig gave a strong performance in the race, placing 12th overall out of 138 girls, with a time of 22:09,” Michele Nesbitt-Westlake said in email.

Both boys and girls teams will be competing at the ROP Invitational at Lampe Park in Gardnerville today. The meet will be good preparation for the regional championships, which will be held Oct. 26 in Reno at Rancho San Rafael Park.
