Dance team earns place at nationals

Provided to the Tahoe Daily TribuneMembers of the dance team at Dance Visions Performing Arts Studio display the trophies they won at the recent "I Love Dance" regional competition in Sacramento. The team will compete in the national finals at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas this summer.

The dance team at Dance Visions Performing Arts Studio at Round Hill represented Lake Tahoe at the recent “I Love Dance” regional competition at Sacramento. The team qualified with their high scores to compete in the the national finals at Caesar Palace in Las Vegas this summer.

The team came home with 15 trophies in a variety of categories. Suzie Elias won first place for her variety arts solo and No. 1 overall dance in the 6- to 8-year-old division. Riana Cerceo took first place for her variety arts solo in the 9- to 11-year-old division, the duo performed by Ali Rothman and Kevin Novotny took top place in the song and dance category and the teaming of Olivia Mason and Dino Elias scored big by coming in first and second in the variety arts category with two different dances and also receiving the honor of No. 1 overall act in the 9 to 11 age division. Riana Cerceo, teamed with her brother Mac Cerceo, took first place for their duo in the variety arts 12 to 14 age division, and Mac received second place for his song and dance solo in the 12 to 14 age division.

The mini-team, with Jillian Rothman, Meredith Grasso, Julia Mason, Colette Craig, Whitney Gardner, Lexi Brooks, MacKenzie Conrad, Suzie Elias and Sierra Forvilly, won first place for both their numbers in the jazz and song and dance category. The junior team of Jillian Rothman, Meredith Grasso, Ali Rothman, Riana Cerceo, Olivia Mason and Blake Bourne earned first place for their group tap number and took top prize for No. 1 group in the 12 to 14 age division. The senior team of Becca Lincoln, Kaitlin Potnick, Katherine Grasso, Titta Costantini, Kristina Betts and Kenna Lincoln took second place for their tap dance and then achieved second again with the addition of Riana Cerceo, Olivia Mason and Blake Bourne for their jazz number, both in the 15 to 17 age division. Kevin Novotny and Dino Elias were picked as Jr. Heartthrobs, which is voted on by the judges for their overall stage presence and star quality.

The team appreciates Safeway, Raley’s, Embassy Suites and Chevys for supporting their fund-raising efforts. The team continues to raise funds to help defray the costs of entry fees, travel expenses and costuming, so they may continue to represent the community at these events.
