El Dorado Community Foundation announces 2013 endowment grants

Each year, as the impact of El Dorado Community Foundation’s South Lake Tahoe Endowment grants are experienced by schools, nonprofit organizations and the youth of South Lake Tahoe, more of them become aware of the opportunity to apply when the period for grant proposals opens up in the fall. This year, the Foundation received 72 requests for grant funding.
The following organizations have been presented with grant awards: $13,715 to South Tahoe Middle School, which will be divided among eight areas; $13,125 to South Tahoe High School, which will be divided among eight programs; $4,500 to South Tahoe High School and Middle School for ski equipment and CTE integration across curriculum; $1,271 to Sierra House PTA; $3,500 to Tahoe Valley Elementary; $700 to Sierra House Elementary; $2,000 to Bijou Community School PTA for the school playground; $2,000 to Tahoe Youth & Family Services for The Drug Store Project; $3,000 to Tahoe Arts Project; $1,500 to HERO; $500 to Lake Tahoe Historical Society; $2,000 to Choices for Children; $750 for Between Horses & Humans; $2,500 for Live Violence Free; $2,205 for South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center; $1,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe; $2,000 for Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation; $2,000 for the Heavenly Ski & Snowboard Foundation; $1,400 for Lake Tahoe Reading Council; $2,500 for Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe; $1,000 for American Youth Soccer Organization; $2,000 for Loyal Order of the Moose; $2,000 for Marine Research & Education Inc.; $2,200 for Lake Tahoe Shining Stars; and $515 for Sierra Tahoe Children’s Theater.
The awards were chosen by cabinet members Wendy David, Karen Houser, Bob Novasel, Doug Rosner, Margie Kovarik-Maxhimer and Mark Acri, Chairman. The cabinet is charged with overseeing the distribution of funds from the South Lake Tahoe Endowment. The South Lake Tahoe Endowment consists of both the Joan Rochelle Fund and the South Lake Tahoe Area Fund. Along with all endowed funds overseen by The El Dorado Community Foundation, the South Lake Tahoe Endowment Funds are invested and the annual investment returns on those funds are distributed through the Foundation into the community.
