Police respond to bomb threat at Sierra-at-Tahoe Ski Resort

Sierra-at-Tahoe Ski Resort evacuated employees and guests Tuesday after a bomb threat was called in about 3 p.m.

The anonymous threat was specific to the lodge, and the area was evacuated immediately, marketing director Mindi Befu said. Lifts were shut down by 3:30 p.m.

El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol responded to the call, she said. They were still on scene at 4:30 p.m., blocking access into the ski resort.

“It was a phoned in bomb threat, no device has been found at this time,” sheriff’s Lt. Pete Van Arnum stated in an email about 5:15 p.m. “The resort has been evacuated for public safety. A search is currently being conducted in an attempt to locate a possible device.”

As of press time, the EDSO bomb squad was investigating.
