A 23-year-old Placerville man was found shot to death Wednesday in his home.

Kyle Smelser, who lived at Treasure Lane just outside of town, was found dead in a hallway by his roommate at about 4 p.m., El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Kevin House said Thursday.

Deputies declined to say where the man was shot.

There are no suspects and deputies ares asking the public for help if they have any information about the victim or the murder.

“Detectives are questioning individuals to see if anyone has information as to who may be responsible,” House said. “The case is being investigated as a homicide, as evidence at the scene indicates this act was perpetrated by another.”

This is the first homicide in El Dorado County this year. Last year, there were four, Houser said.
