Gas station robbed at gunpoint

Gregory Crofton, Tahoe Daily Tribune

A masked man walked into Swiss Mart Food & Gas on Monday night, pointed a pistol at an employee who was mopping the floor and demanded cash, police said.

The clerk opened the register and the robber, dressed in black and wearing a brown ski mask, darted out the front door with most of the cash from the register, said South Lake Tahoe police Detective David Stevenson.

There were no witnesses to the crime, which occurred at 8:40 p.m., other than the clerk. The robber ran toward the “Y.”

The clerk said the robber weighed about 140 pounds and was about 5 feet 8 inches tall.

Anyone who witnessed the crime or can provide a tip is asked to contact Stevenson at (530) 542-6100 or Secret Witness at (530) 541-6800.
