Gunbarrel Tavern & Eatery to open Labor Day weekend

Provided to the Tribune

Gunbarrel Tavern & Eatery, the newest addition to the Heavenly Village, will host its grand opening Aug. 30.

South Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce, Owner Alex Cox, Executive Chef Billy McCullough, Head Chef Ricky Sausser and the staff of the new dining spot will host the official opening. Cox also owns 22 Bistro in the Village at Squaw Valley, named in honor of the resort’s world famous run, KT-22. In keeping with the theme, Gunbarrel takes its moniker from the famed double-black-diamond mogul run at Heavenly Ski Resort, a press release stated.

As co-founder of the Tahoe Slow Food Movement and the Sierra Sun’s “Chef of the Year,” McCullough aims to take advantage of the geographical location of Gunbarrel to utilize the best agricultural offerings from across the western United States.

“All of our primary ingredients are hand-selected directly from the farms themselves,” McCullough stated in the release. “By sourcing food from all over the West Coast our kitchen can evolve with the seasons as ingredients become readily available, creating an eclectic, unique menu that changes year round.”

Gunbarrel Tavern & Eatery is located at 1001 Heavenly Village Way at the base of the Heavenly gondola. It will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
