Head-on collision claims life of young Minden man

Staff reports

The 19-year-old driver of a dune buggy was killed in a head-on collision on Sunrise Pass Road near Juniper Valley that occurred 9:23 a.m. Thursday.

According to the initial investigation, a Ford F-150 was eastbound on the rugged road, and the buggy was westbound at a high rate of speed. The dune buggy started to slide on the packed dirt and drifted into the path of the pickup, according to Douglas County Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Pat Brooks.

The driver of the dune buggy, identified as Daniel Palmer of Minden, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Palmer was a Douglas High graduate.

The passenger of the dune buggy was helicoptered to Renown Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver and passenger of the F-150 were not injured.

East Fork Fire District medics and Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene of the accident, and the Nevada Highway Patrol is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
