Help plan the city’s future

Staff report

The city of South Lake Tahoe will be hosting a community workshop Nov. 5 on the city’s General Plan update. The workshop will be from 6 to 8 p.m. in City Council chambers at the Lake Tahoe Airport.

The General Plan lays out the community’s long-range vision and “constitution” for future land use, development and environmental protection. The General Plan update is expected to take about two years.

The city typically updates its General Plan every 10 to 15 years.

The city already has held two workshops on the general plan’s housing element; this meeting will be specifically on the General Plan update.

Attendees will hear a report on the progress of the update, including the recently released “Issues and Opportunities” report. Attendees then will break into groups and identify the most important ingredients that should go into a 20-year vision statement for South Lake Tahoe, the most important projects or improvements for achieving the vision, and how complete neighborhoods can be achieved throughout the city.

BlueGO on-call service will be available for transportation to the meeting. Pizza and light refreshments will be served.
