Holiday tree permits for the Lake Tahoe Basin will go on sale Friday, Nov. 23.

Permit holders may choose from a variety of pine, fir or cedar in designated cutting areas and must abide by specific permit conditions for proper and responsible collection. Those who purchase permits will receive information to help them make the best selection, as well as maps designating the tree-cutting areas. Permit holders should respect private property by not trespassing when entering or leaving designated National Forest cutting areas and should keep vehicles on National Forest System roads, and park safely off the roadway in designated spots. No off-road travel is allowed.

Permits cost $10 each and must be paid with cash or a check. Each family is limited to two permits. This year the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will issue 3,000 permits available on a first-come, first-served basis. The last day to purchase a permit at the South Lake Tahoe office is Dec. 24.

Permits will be sold at the LTBMU office, 35 College Drive in South Lake Tahoe, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, call 530-543-2694 or visit
