On September 26, 2011 Garrett was killed while on patrol in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

This year without Garrett has been very hard for all of us, as you constantly expect him to walk through the door or be on the other end of the ringing phone.

But we also have had the opportunity to meet some wonderful people who have helped all of us during this heartbreaking time, and also went to Fort Riley and met the guy’s and families whom he trained and deployed with. Throughout all of this, there has always been the same sentimental words spoken about him; Garrett loved the Army, always had a smile, he was the best friend they ever had, and made a difference in people’s lives.

Garrett is loved and greatly missed by his family and friends who will always remember the sweet kid with the quirky smile who became a man and died a hero.

We love you Garrett and also missed and not forgotten are the other fallen heroes who were deployed with Garrett and our own fallen local heroes: Timothy Michael Smith, Phillip Brandon Williams, Richard Jacobs, Jr., Miranda Summerwind McElhiney, and Kaleb James Martin Curtzwiler.
