Joe Kowalchuk

Joe Kowalchuk, a strong and gentle man, died peacefully with a sparkle in his blue eyes on July 28, 2005. He was 86.

Born on Nov. 9, 1918, Joe lived a full and rich life. He was a longtime resident of Lake Tahoe and resided in San Felipe, Mexico, for the past eight years.

Joe served his country in World War II in the Pacific Theater in the Army Air Corp and played semi-pro basketball. Joe loved the casino business and served for years as a casino host at the Sahara at Lake Tahoe.

He had a knack with people and always made a person feel special. Joe knew everybody and everybody knew him.

Joe is survived by his wife, Patsy; son, Joe Jr. of Denver, Colo.; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Leanne Howe of Oahu, Hawaii; daughter and son-in-law, Teri and Ken Zutter of Dayton, Nev.; granddaughter Meliah Gonzales; seven other grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life was held Aug. 1 at Walton’s Chapel of the Valley, 1281 N. Roop Street, Carson City, NV.
