John Paul Colvin

Graveside services will take place at 11 a.m. June 11 at the Dayton Valley Cemetery for John Paul Colvin, who passed away June 2, 2007. He was 84.

John was born Feb. 22, 1923, to James and Theresa Colvin in Glendive, Mont., where he grew up and attended schools. In January 1943 he joined the United States Army and served in World War II in New Guinea and the Philippines. He married Hazel Kartes on Aug. 4, 1947, in Glendive. John worked for General Mills Incorporated as a chemist, in Lodi, Calif., from 1948 until he retired in 1985. The couple resided at South Lake Tahoe for 18 years before moving to Dayton, Nev., in 2002. John’s hobbies included reading, music, dancing, square dancing, camping and playing tennis. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Colvin of Dayton; daughter, Theresa Beggs of Dayton; sister, Mary Ayers of Santa Barbara, Calif.; grandchild, Mardy Cassin; and great-grandchild, Morgan Cassin. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Theresa Colvin; brothers, Jim and Terry; and sister, Theresa.

Arrangements are in the care of Autumn Funerals & Cremations.
