Kudos & Kindness: Thanks for making summer at the library great

It was a busy summer at the Lake Tahoe branch of the Douglas County Public Library. Our summer reading programs “Dream Big – Read” for children and “Own the Night” for teens were enhanced by the generosity of local businesses and community volunteers.

Minden-Tahoe Airport and SoaringNV donated the grand prize of a glider ride for winners of both the children and teen programs. Round Table Pizza and Fatburger donated gift certificates to all who finished the reading program. Safeway in the Round Hill Shopping Center donated a gift card to buy supplies for making ice cream at our end of summer reading celebration. Magic Carpet Golf Lake Tahoe, South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena, Tahoe Bowl, Zephyr Cove Stables, and the Carson Valley Swim Center donated gift certificates for prizes. Sorensen’s Resort donated a prize for the parents of a program finisher.

Musician Nancy Raven donated her talents to our Imaginary Campout Programs and Storytime at Lampe Park. Thank you to all of the volunteers who gave their time to make the summer reading programs a success. Your assistance with the programs was invaluable.

“Bats are Cool” with Corky Quirk from Northern California Bats was funded through the Institute of Museum and Library Services summer reading program grant. We couldn’t function without the Friends of Douglas County Library. They help to fund things we need, from prizes to programs.

Thank you to all of these people and businesses for enriching the lives of Douglas County children! The library could not have run such a well-received program without you.

Congratulations to all finishers of the “Dream Big-Read” children’s program and the “Own the Night” teen program. Great job!
