LAKE TAHOE – A winter storm warning remains in effect until 4 p.m. Monday for the greater Truckee/Tahoe region, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Snow is expected to increase in intensity between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., NWS reports. An additional 15 to 30 inches of snow is expected above 7,000 feet, with 8 to 16 inches possible at lake level.

Regional highways continue to carry snow tire and chain restrictions; stay up to date at http://www.sierrasun.com/roadconditions.

After Monday, sunshine and mild temperatures in the upper-40s to lower-50s are expected to return by midweek.

The return of winter after a drier-than-normal December and January has ski resorts celebrating a healthy amount of natural snow back on the mountains.

According to the snow report at Sierra-at-Tahoe Ski Resort, there are 47 inches of snow at upper mountain; 22 inches of snow have fallen so far in the current storm system, which began Thursday. Sierra will open the Grandview Chairlift today.
