Lam Watah trailhead parking closed through mid-October

The Tahoe Transportation District and the U.S. Forest Service are asking the public to park in alternate locations to use the Lam Watah Trail while work is underway on Phase 1B of the Nevada Stateline-to-Stateline Bike Path project.

Parking for the trailhead is normally located on the north side of U.S. Highway 50 just east of the casinos on Kahle Drive.

When the project is complete, parking will increase from 9 to 20 spaces to accommodate additional use of the new paved bike path, according to a statement from the agencies.

New amenities will eventually include an additional informational kiosk, two picnic tables, a bear-proof trash container, bicycle racks and a new restroom.

Work may last through Oct. 15. Lam Watah Trail remains open, with a slight detour. Alternate parking is available in the Douglas County parking lots located on the south side of Highway 50 and Kahle Drive.
