Last turns of the season at Lake Tahoe ski resorts

A snowskater takes a run at Heavenly Mountain Resort earlier this month. The resort is among the five Lake Tahoe-area ski resorts to wrap up the winter on Sunday.

The winter season at Lake Tahoe's ski resorts will come to a close this weekend, with the region's five remaining open areas wrapping up winter operations.

Heavenly Mountain Resort, Kirkwood Mountain Resort, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe, Northstar California and Squaw Valley are each set to hold their final day of skiing and riding for the 2014-2015 winter on Sunday.

At the South Shore, Heavenly was operating the Gondola, Tamarack Express, Dipper Express, Red Fir Mighty Mite, Bear Cave Carpet and its Tubing Lift this week, while Kirkwood has chairs 5, 6 and 10 running, according to the resorts' snow reports.

At the North Shore, Mt. Rose planned to run its Northwest Magnum 6, Ponderosa, Galena and Flying Jenny lifts this week. Northstar California is running Arrow Express, Big Dipper Carpet, the Big Springs Express Gondola, Comstock Express, Highlands Gondola and Vista Express. The Aerial Tram, Funitel, Golf Coast Express, Shirley Express and Siberia Express at Squaw were set to run through this week.

Nighttime temperatures are expected to be just below freezing through the weekend and make way for sunny skies and warm weather during the days.

"The weather for closing weekend should be beautiful with sun and highs in the 50's on the mountain, and 60's in the village," Bryan Allegretto wrote on Squaw's blog.
