LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Environmental groups should work together
June 3, 2010
It is hard to understand the League to Save Lake Tahoe’s Rochelle Nason’s belief that the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency now favors a “Build Baby Build” strategy. As a resident I struggled for years with the complexities of obtaining TRPA approval for even tiny improvements. I hardly think that Joanne Marchetta’s statement, “the days are over when environmental protection meant simply saying no to all development,” will lead to bad development. It is about time that we all realize that there is an environmental cost impact of doing nothing.
Both environmental and economic gains can be realized from intelligent development. The last thing we need is to have two environmental organizations spending other people’s money fighting to be the most “environmentally protective” group.
