Letter to the editor: Going from hope and change to hoping we change

Well, here we go again.

As a record number of Americans remain on food stamps, unemployment remains oppressively high in some states, and too many people have foreclosed on their homes to count – nothing has really changed and I am beginning to run out of hope.

Am I wrong or did the American electorate just vote back into office the same Congress, Senate, and president that we’ve had for the past two to four years? Watch out fiscal cliff, here we come!

If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different outcome, then arguably the voting population in this country is downright crazy. President Barack Obama’s and Speaker John Boehner’s blame game absolutely reeks of repetitive insanity!

We can argue over who is being the most stubborn and unreasonable between political parties, but the reality is that all parties are partially to blame. The American people don’t really care whose fault it is anymore, we just want our elected officials in Washington to behave like adults for once.

So here comes the hope part – I hope that Obama’s message of “hope and change” will actually happen this time. I hope the American people didn’t just bury themselves in Washington’s deadlocked anarchy.

Most of all, I hope and pray that our elected officials were listening when Romney asked for “Democrats and Republicans in government at all levels to put the people before the politics.” Now that’s a change I can really hope for.

I want to believe that in spite of all the problems this nation faces, our country has a prevailing optimism that never seems to completely diminish. And I hope that is something that will never change.
