Letter to the editor: Sass should fill the vacant council seat

I’m pleased to hear that the South Lake Tahoe City Council has arrived at the decision to appoint someone to fill the two years left on Claire Fortier’s council seat as opposed to holding a special election that would draw out the process and cost the taxpayers money the city does not have. As to picking the person to fill that seat, I strongly urge the remaining members on the council do the right thing and listen to the will of the voters and appoint Austin Sass. To do otherwise would look extremely heavy-handed, and would do absolutely nothing to improve the tarnished image that has plagued the council over the past six years. Sass represents the new blood that so many in our small city feel needs to be infused into our town’s governing body. He has an extremely strong grasp on the direction we should be moving in, and has worked diligently to be up to snuff on all matters currently pending within the town and council of the city of South Lake Tahoe. He also has the time and energy to commit to the workload that accompanies a seat on the South Lake Tahoe City Council. His strong grasp of large scale business financial matters is just one more reason that this decision should be a no-brainer.

In closing, I would just like to reiterate that this decision could be a tipping point as to how our cities voters will view the re-election chances for sitting council members in future elections.
