Canine association announces logo contest

Tribune staff report

The South Lake Tahoe Police Canine Association is looking for a new logo for the upcoming K-9 trial in September. People are asked to submit logos by midnight, July 18.

The winning designer will win $100 and get a free sweatshirt and T-shirt with their logo. The winner also will be invited to attend the K-9 trial banquet Sept. 27.

The group has a few design specifications that must be followed. The K-9 trial is a family event so no language or images that might be offensive will be considered. K-9s in logos should be German Shepard, Belgian Malinois or Dutch Shepard dogs. Logos that feature skulls or depict K-9s as overly aggressive also will not be considered.

“Except for these guidelines we want all contestants to feel free to be as creative as possible and do not want to guide anyone in any direction. SLTPCA wants an exciting and original logo,” the group said in a statement announcing the competition.

Hard copy logo submissions can be dropped off at the front counter of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department. They should be mounted on a hard surface and protected by a cover sheet to prevent damage. Digital submissions can be emailed to logo@sltpca.org. No submissions will be accepted after deadline. The winner will be selected within two to three weeks.
