Tips and tools for homeowners and gardeners will be highlighted in a two-day exhibition in South Lake Tahoe this week.

The third annual Lake Tahoe Home and Garden Show, presented by Golden Bear Events, will feature about 55 vendors. About 1,000 people are expected at the show.

“It’s kind of nice that people can go there to get that information,” said JoAnn Conner, owner of Golden Bear Events, adding. “I just thought this would be a great way for businesses to show their products to the community.”

The all-ages free event will be held at South Lake Tahoe’s Recreation and Swim Complex, 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd. It will run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on April 25 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 26.

Several local businesses and crafters will be displaying their products at the show, including Lee Designs, which will showcase a variety of steel screen doors that are made to keep wild animals out of the home and household pets indoors, Conner said.

Another vendor, Jim Dalton, will show off his collection of elaborate birdhouses. Dalton made the birdhouses by hand, using redwood, cedar, pine, bark, logs and other unique materials, he said.

“They are pretty neat,” Dalton said, “and they are all different.”

Along with a variety of booths, the event will feature food, prizes and live music from Ditch Weed Harvest and the Dark-eyed Junco Band. An author’s corner, on the other hand, will present several writers, including Liz Patterson, Ray Goodenough, Debra Gautheir and Gina Geldbach-Hall.

The Author’s Corner is new to the event this year, Conner said.

Additionally, small gifts — such as plants, candles, packets of seeds, pens and reusable bags — will be given to the first 500 attendees. And drawing prizes will be available throughout the exhibition.

“I think it’s going to be a fun day with a lot of free giveaways and information on just about anything you want to do around your home,” Conner said.

Conner said she specifically planned for the Home and Garden Show (4-7 p.m.) to not overlap time with the Meek’s Contractor Expo (7 a.m. to 1 p.m.) on April 25. She wanted patrons to be able to attend both events. The contractor expo will be held at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe and feature more than 60 vendors.
