South Lake Tahoe police are requesting the public's help in identifying a man who allegedly attempted to rob El Dorado Savings Bank in the Bijou Center about 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
The man is believed to be white, in his 70s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, thin, with short hair and clean shaven, according to a Thursday statement from the city.
He wore a black baseball cap with a white mesh back and unknown lettering on the front. The suspect also wore a black, hooded sweatshirt over a dark Polo-style pullover with thin, multicolored horizontal stripes on it, black shorts, white socks and black shoes, according to the statement.
"The suspect passed a demand note to a teller and then appeared to change his mind about following through with the robbery," according to the statement. "No weapon was ever threatened or displayed. The suspect left through the front doors and rode a bicycle eastbound."
The bicycle is described as white or chrome with a girl's-style frame. The bike had a large basket on the front and a black bag affixed to the back, according to the statement.
