Snowfall this season has been mild so far, but that hasn’t phased Sierra Mountain Sports’ snowmobile and tubing rentals on Lake Parkway much.

Thanks to eight snowmaking guns, Sierra Mountain Sports has been able to make an oval track for snowmobiles and two large mounds for snow tubing. It’s one of the few places in town that offers snowmaking capabilities besides Heavenly Mountain Resort.

“If you don’t want to go skiing or snowboarding, we’ve got the only snow,” Manager Brian Gogue said.

On Tuesday, dozens of tourists came to the rental company for a go at the sled hill or some runs on a snowmobile. Sacramento resident Tash Tutelya was one of them.

It was Tutelya’s first time riding a snowmobile, she said.

“It was fun,” she said. “It was kind of scary, but something new.”

On the sled hill, Gisel Martinez was with her three kids — Lesley, John and Kevin — and her husband, Andrez Gonzalez.

They took turns riding down the hill Tuesday, and were visiting South Shore because “Santa Clause is coming here,” Martinez said.

Sierra Mountain Sports is hoping to get more snow so they can increase the length of the sled hill and add a turn, Gogue said. But so far, the rental company has been busy.

“That thing was packed earlier,” he said of the sled hill Tuesday. “It blows me away.”
