Luberta Faye McElroy

Lovingly known as ‘Lu’, she was our mom, grandma, great-grandma, wife and sister. Luberta was born in Canadian, Texas. Her family, parents Max and Anna, sisters Melba and Janetta moved to California when she was still young. She grew up in Alpaugh, Calif., and graduated high school in 1950. Married to John McElroy in 1954, they moved to Southern California. There she raised a family, and worked full time at Hunt-Wesson foods. She had two children, Cindy and Jon.

In 1975 she realized her dream of moving to Lake Tahoe. She worked at the old Sahara casino for many years. In the 1980’s she lived in Oklahoma to be near her daughter Cindy and her grandchildren, Christopher and Tyler and great grand child Ariel.

In 1995 she moved back to Lake Tahoe. Her son Jon still lived there. She worked at Harrahs until she retired a few years later.

Lu loved to sew, knit, crochet and needlepoint. She spent countless hours creating works of art for her family and friends. Every birthday and Christmas she would amaze us with her skill, giving us beautiful gifts made with love. Her other loves included reading, playing in her garden, traveling and cooking.

Mom loved to laugh, her quick wit and sense of humor would dissolve your cares and make you feel like everything would be OK. She loved life, as she loved her family. Her unconditional love for her family was always felt, you never doubted it, ever.

The pain of losing her is only tempered by the gratitude we have that she was in our lives for so many years.
