In loving memory of Mathilda Julia “Toni” Watts, born September 11, 1915, in Gary, Ind. to Joseph and Caroline (Solderich) Jerry.
She attended St. Dorothy Parochial School in Chicago, Ill., Graduated from the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, and Hirsh High School. She became a fashion illustrator until meeting the love of her life, Robert, and moved West to California.
From Chicago to: Sacramento, Jackson, San Francisco, Richmond, El Cerrito, and finally South Lake Tahoe. She passed away on March 16, 2008, joining her husband, sister, and parents. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Dennis of Gardnerville, Nev., Liz Watts of Richmond, Calif.; son, Richard Watts of Fairfield, Calif.; grandchildren, Carrie Young of Reno, Nev., Traci Bennis of Minden, Nev., Erik Watts, Robert Watts of Vacaville, Calif., and Cosmo Martinez of Richmond, Calif.; great grandchildren, Joseph Bennis of Minden, Nev., Chloe Young of Reno, Nev., and soon-to-be-born Tristan Watts of Vacaville, Calif.
Not only will Toni be missed by family and friends, but also by her extended family – the entertainers headlining the showroom of the Sahara Tahoe from the opening in the ’60s to the closing in the ’80s, to whom she was known as “Momi.” The memorial Mass will be celebrated April 4, 2008, at 11 a.m. in Saint Theresa of Lisieux, 1041 Lyons Ave., South Lake Tahoe, CA. The Inurnment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in San Pablo, Calif.
