Army Sgt. Travis W. Runnels has graduated from the Chaplain Assistant Advanced Individual Training course at the Chaplain School, Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
The course emphasized religious support, development of interpersonal skills, and unit ministry support to soldiers and family members. The support training provided services in a battlefield environment and battle fatigue casualty care.
Religious support classes instructed students to prepare altars for protestant, catholic, jewish and orthodox worship services, and stressed the importance of being knowledgeable of all faith groups represented in the Army.
Runnels earned physical training honors during the course.
He is the son of Julie B. Clayton of Valdora St., Davis, Calif., and John W. Runnels of Emerald Bay Road, South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
The sergeant is a 2001 graduate of Davis Senior High School.

Martin promoted, ships out soon
Corbett B. Martin, 23, was commissioned 2nd lieutenant in the United State Marine Corps after graduating Aug. 12 from Officer Candidate School at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va.
He will report back Sept. 1 to Quantico for six-month Basic School.
A 200 graduate of South Tahoe High School, Martin earned a bachelor’s degree in political science at University of California, Long Beach in 2004.
He is the son of Jerry and Cathy Martin of South Lake Tahoe.
