A familiar Kirkwood venue has been renovated and renamed.

7800 at Kirkwood will feature live music on Friday nights and DJs on Saturday nights. It also is a restaurant with breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night bar menus. The venue has had various names, probably the best known being the Tower Bar. It is the first street after the General Store and Red Cliffs Day Lodge. From the slopes, it is accessed by Chair. 1.

The new owner is former Oakland resident David Thoms.

“I’ve been coming to Kirkwood for four or five years as a customer,” Thoms said. “I love Kirkwood, the terrain and the fact that it has more snow than anywhere else. I saw this as an opportunity and ran with it.”

A grand opening at 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, features DJ Keenan. The resort opens Friday.

Thoms said there will be eight beers on tap and food will be delivered throughout Kirkwood. Pete’s Coffee is served.

“I think this place has a lot of potential,” he said.

A press release stated there will be apres ski specials and weekly features and promotions. There is a pool table in a separate room and your favorite sporting events will be shown on three 47-inch LED video screens. The Bar came from the Bay area from the 1850s piece by piece and re-assembled.
