Obituary: Ardelle Colombo Gibson
June 26, 2013
Ardelle Colombo Gibson, 87 died June 3, 2013.
She was born in Portland on June 7, 1925 to Henry Courtney and Florence Potterf. She graduated from Eugene High School in 1943.
Married to Ernest Colombo on April 9, 1943, they celebrated 43 years together before his death in l986. Together they owned and operated two businesses – Coak's Radiator Service in Eugene, Oregon and then Colombo's Burgers a Go Go in South Lake Tahoe, California. Their home was always open to friends for card games and parties.
In 2000 she married Robert Gibson and they moved to Portland in 2005.
He died in April 2013.
Ardelle found joy in dancing, playing cards and games, entertaining, writing chatty letters, dressing up, and making people feel welcome. She loved to drive her Cadillacs, and for many years, she used that love and her gift for hospitality as a volunteer — driving people from Lake Tahoe to Reno for medical treatment. She was a natural math whiz – counting cards and calculating large burger orders plus sales tax in her head.
Ardelle is survived by her children Liana, Deidre, and Tony Colombo, Liana's partner Bert Shaw; granddaughter Desiree Basevi (Allen) and 4 great-grandchildren.
Burial to take place in South Lake Tahoe.
An open house to celebrate her life will be held at a date to be determined.
