Obituary: Buzz McLelland

Buzz McLelland, long time South Tahoe resident and businessman passed away peacefully Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Carson Valley Senior Living after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He came to Lake Tahoe in 1971 and started McLelland Roofing. In 1980, Buzz met Donna and raised her son as his own. They were married in 1989 and soon after, Buzz legally adopted Buck.

Buzz worked hard and played hard all his life. He led his life as an honest hard working man. His hands showed the years of hard work to everyone he met and shook their hand. Buzz loved meeting new people every day, either giving bids for new roofs or out checking the Saturday garage sales with his wing man Richard Meraz.

Hunting and fishing were his passion, and Buzz was always planning next year’s elk hunting trip. From the mountains of New Mexico to the mountains of northern Colorado, Buzz left his footprint. He was an avid member of the High Mountain Anglers for many years and went with the family fishing all over California. Buzz also loved bass fishing and began tournament fishing. He also sponsored Buck’s baseball games all the way from T-ball to High School and led them to win many tournaments.

In 2007 Buzz was blessed with his first grandchild, Camryn. This now became his new passion in life. He loved to take her fishing and soon became known as “Papa Fishy”. In 2008, he was blessed with his second grandchild, Marissa. There were many good fishing trips with the girls before the Alzheimer’s got too bad.

Buzz came to know the Lord in 2011 after building a wooden cross for the First Baptist Church for Pastor Morse, where it still stands inside the church today. He is now resting with the Lord and is FISHING EVERYDAY.

Buzz was preceded in death by his brothers HP and Jr. He is survived by his wife Donna, son Buck, daughter-in-law Michelle, granddaughters Camryn and Marissa, brothers Bud, Bobby Glen, and Ted, sisters Frankie, Marie, Betty Ann, Julie Ann, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Carson Valley Senior Living for the great care and love that was shared.

There will be a celebration of Buzz’s life on July 27th at the Camp Richardson Corral at 5:30 p.m. Buzz would have asked that you take a kid fishing or make donations to the Optimist Kids fishing day at Sawmill Pond.
