Obituary: Josephine “Jo” Martino Tomlins

Josephine "Jo" Martino Tomlins, 83 saw the first light of day in January 1930 in Chicago, IL, born to Giuseppe and Margarita Martino. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in Modesto, CA. Jo and her family moved to Riverbank, CA in 1945. Jo completed High School in Oakdale, CA. She worked for the Modesto Theaters, where she met Don, her future husband. They married in June of 1949 and recently celebrated 64 years of a loving marriage. Jo worked as an accountant for Coast Drugs for 22 years. She was an amazing cook, authentic Italian food, and her pies were her specialty for all occasions. She showed her love by cooking for all who entered her home. Her laughter was contagious, and she loved to play cards with family and friends. Her home was always open with her love to share to everyone who entered. Jo and her husband retired in 1985 and moved to South Lake Tahoe. Jo dearly loved the slots and table games. Her husband Don was the love of her life and she adored him. She cherished her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and had love for each and every one of them.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents Giuseppe "Joe" and Margarita"Mary" Martino, 2 sisters, Carmela Knox and Nickie Grothaus. She is survived by her loving husband, Don Tomlins, daughter, Margaret Ingwerson (Art), son Steve Tomlins (Mary), seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one on the way, sisters, Mary Massa and Angie Massa, brothers-in-law Wes Tomlins and Roman Grothaus, many nieces and nephews. Jo loved her family, friends, her dog Peanut and life. Jo was loved by all who knew her, the smile, laughter, and her hugs will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, August 21, 2013, 10:00 a.m. at Three Rivers Christian Fellowship, 500-9th St., Suite B in Modesto, CA.
