Obituary: Maria Socorro Rodarte
June 26, 2013
Maria Socorro Rodarte passed away on June 11, 2013. She died at her home, peacefully, in her favorite recliner rocking chair surrounded by many of her loving family.
Maria was born in San Jose de las Bocas, Mexico in 1920. Her parents died when she was a young girl and she immigrated to the United States at the age of 18 to work as a nanny in the Los Angeles area. She married Lawrence Allen, an attorney, and they moved to San Francisco. The Allen's had 3 children, Evelyn Marie, Ethan Scott, and Frances Elizabeth. Ethan preceded his mother in death in 2008. Mr. Allen died in 1954, when the children were quite young. Left alone with her small family, Maria nurtured her children by opening her home to renters, working in childcare, sewing, and cleaning houses. She later moved to Concord to live near her sister Lupita. She met Victor Rodarte while living in the east bay and they married in 1960. Mr. Rodarte worked in construction and they settled in Pleasant Hill. There they had 2 children, Suzette Teresita and Cherie Maria. Mr. Rodarte died when the girls were in high school. The family moved to South Tahoe to be close to family. After Suzette's marriage to George Waite, Maria lived with the Waite family until her death.
Maria is survived by her sister Lupita, her daughters; Frances, Suzette, and Cherie, 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 3 son-in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews. She lived 1 Corinthians 10:31 every day: "In all that you do, do it to the glory of God."
A memorial service for Maria will be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, June 22 at Tahoe Community Church, 143 Daggett Lane, Stateline, NV.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Women's, Youth, or Benevolence Ministries at Tahoe Community Church, P.O. Box 6598, Stateline, NV 89449.
