Obituary — William J. Wells

Memorial services will take place May 6 for William J. Wells, who died May 2, 2003, after a 2 1/2-year battle with cancer. He was 71.

Mr. Wells was born Nov. 25, 1931, at Puyallup, Wash. He graduated from San Jose State University in the Law Enforcement Program in 1953 and was hired by the San Jose Police Department, where he served with distinction for 31 years. He also served in the National Guard for 20 years and retired as a captain and company commander. He had been a resident of Stateline, Nev., since 1985. Mr. Wells was a member of St. John Vianney Church at San Jose before moving and joining Our Lady of Tahoe Church in Zephyr Cove. He was a loving husband, father and friend and his legion of friends will remember him most for his caring and compassionate nature. He will be remembered for his integrity, loyalty, sense of humor and most of all, for his love and devotion to his family.

He is survived by his wife and sweetheart of 53 years, Beverly; sons, William and Douglas; daughters Elizabeth and Rebecca; daughters-in-law, Debra and Vicky; grandchildren, Adam, Billy, Shallon, Leonard and Ana Maria; four great-grandchildren; and his extended family of friends of Our Lady of Tahoe.

Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m. May 6 at Our Lady of Tahoe Catholic Church, Elk Point Rd, Zephyr Cove. In lieu of flowers the family prefers contributions in Mr. Wells’ memory be made to Barton Hospice, 2092 Lake Tahoe Blvd., No. 500, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150 or Our Lady of Tahoe Catholic Church, P.O.
