Our IVGID Trustees, who are charged with entrusting our assets, would be giving away the store in regards to Ordinance 7 changes. It seems that when making a decision that has such enormous consequences on our property values, they should have informed the community and even allowed the property owners a vote in the matter.
The rationale apparently is that our facilities are all under-utilized. The reality is that I can never manage to score a machine at the Rec Center because they are all being used by Sierra Nevada College students.
The beaches and the Burnt Cedar Pool were crowded last summer, even on a Tuesday. If the tennis and golf facilities are not being used, it is because the prices are too high. Econ 101 states that price X quantity = total revenue.
Allowing anybody with an Incline contact to purchase a photo Rec Card and have complete use of all of our facilities at resident rates adds insult to injury, as we property owners are subsidizing their recreation by having to pay an additional $830 recreation fee.
The other obvious issue to this poorly conceived plan is that each new property owner may bring along unlimited friends to our private beaches. So much for our exclusive recreational facilities that we all paid for when we bought homes here. If the family tree is a problem, change the word “family” to “household,” and let the parcel owner decide who belongs to his household.
The IVGID trustees complain that all of our venues are losing money. This plan will have marginal impact on increasing revenue when you consider the additional impact of more crowds and cars. Perhaps a better way to salvage our facilities is to quit giving them away for free to IVGID employees, former IVGID employees and students and faculty at SNC.
The first person I will sell an extra pass to is Frank Wright. Frank, call me, as we obviously need new trustees as well.
