Letter: California Tahoe Conservancy creates issues for area

The California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) owns nearly 5,000 properties in the Tahoe basin. A great many are in the city of South Lake Tahoe. The properties are not taxed by the city. Thus, the city’s revenue base is adversely affected.

The CTC presents a compound problem for the city. (A) The city does not have authority over the CTC’s properties (such as abatement). (B) The CTC does not contribute a penny to the city’s revenue base.

The situation is absurd. Our city is crippled, incomplete because a major land lord is free of any city regulations and taxes. Above the law?
