Letter to the editor: Landscape architecture would help the area

Sarah Nitchman’s article titled “Finding a creative outlet in a new community” in the April 6 edition caught my attention. A new book at the college library is a must-read for all interested parties. “1,000 Details in Landscape Architecture” edited by Francesc Zamora Mola is a fantastic photo book with extensive informative captions. If just one of those 1,000 ideas were demonstrated at South Tahoe it would become an instant tourist attraction. From there it is easy to see that architecture is power. What are we waiting for? All of Tahoe could certainly use a big dose of inspired landscape architecture, but its not there. Why? The money is here. It’s only the imagination that is missing. Perhaps now is the time to start a turnaround. I would suggest beginning with the replacement of the bike bridge at 50 and Sawmill Road, which really must be at the bottom of the designers’ dung heap. Good luck Sarah, I’m with you.
