Letter to the editor: Making a place for locals and visitors to enjoy is possible

Yes, there is a better way. Thank you, Ethel Aubrey, for your thoughts. Mine also. I have been saying this for some time now, even back 40 years ago. How difficult would it be to have this in place for the summer? Wouldn’t it be so nice to have Highway 50 closed from Park Avenue to the stop light in Nevada. Three or four lanes going East from park into Nevada, and three or four lanes returning back West into California. It’s called — one way east and one way west. Yes, folks, close Highway 50 from Park into Nevada. No bridges, just a place for us and those who come to Tahoe to enjoy. Walk freely. Relaxing. Maybe some outdoor events-fire pits, you know, the things people will remember us by. A few signs showing people how to get to the existing businesses — a little paint on the pavement and, voila, things happen. No displacing people, like Aubrey says, no great expenses either. For some reason, others always make things so difficult and expensive.
