El Dorado County Search and Rescue personnel and South Lake Tahoe firefighters were able to rescue a man who nearly drowned at the Tahoe Keys July 15, according to a Saturday statement from South Lake Tahoe Fire Chief Bruce Martin.
Personnel from the agencies responded to the Keys following a report of a swimmer in trouble, according to the statement.
Rescuers, including search and rescue’s Dan Schmidt, swam down about 10 feet, retrieved the man and pulled him onto a boat, Martin said.
The man was revived with CPR on the way to the hospital and was eventually flown to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. He has fully recovered and has been released from the hospital, according to the statement.
Rescuers used a new piece of equipment called the Auto-Pulse to provide mechanical compressions to the man during life-saving efforts.
