As a member of Incline’s community, I’m grieving Paul Guttman’s death. Probably like the majority of Incline residents, I didn’t know Paul as a friend or colleague. He just seemed to be in a lot of places I was at the same time; and he was always, without exception, a positive presence — always a contributor.
We sat together at the Bonanza’s Tuesday morning meetings. He was at most of the functions I attended at Sierra Nevada College. And he was always sitting in the front row recording the sound for our Sierra Nevada College Choir performances.
I read with interest his work in astronomy, because my own son is an astrophysicist. When I heard of Paul’s death, I knew I’d notice his absence and be sorry he’s gone.
I won’t feel the loss like his family or his friends or many of the community who worked with him or had the pleasure of his company longer or more often. But his death saddens me because he was just such a fine person to know.
