Guest View: Why I support Doug Ose for Congress
March 5, 2008
In the 4th Congressional District, voters have a chance to follow an American tradition and an important part of our political heritage by getting involved in the campaign to support Doug Ose.
While there may be other worthy candidates in the race to replace John Doolittle, I have chosen to support Ose because of his personal integrity, experience and proven dedication to taxpayers and private-property owners.
As an active supporter of Ose’s, I felt it important to share some specific reasons why he is the right person for the district.
Doug Ose has been a strong proponent of reducing the tax burden on America’s working families, small-business owners, family farmers and ranchers – supporting one of the largest tax cuts in American history. He voted for the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, which eliminated the marriage tax penalty, increased child tax credits and lowered the death tax. These tax cuts were implemented to create more jobs and encourage more consumer spending that would stimulate strong economic growth. As a result of Ose’s efforts to cut taxes, the National Federation of Independent Businesses recognized him as a “Guardian of Small Business.” He also was named “Hero of the Taxpayer” by Americans for Tax Reform and was honored with the National Tax Limitation Committee’s 108th Congress Tax Fighter Award.
In only his second term in office, House Republican leaders tapped Ose to serve as chairman of a House Government Reform Subcommittee charged with holding the IRS and other federal agencies accountable for government waste and fraud, and reducing the regulatory burden on employers.
Under his leadership, the committee worked diligently to ensure that there was greater clarity and understanding regarding gifts to federal employees especially those that reside in the White House. Public outcry led Ose to introduce reforms that called for greater disclosure and accounting of presidential gifts.

The Small Business Survival Committee awarded Ose the Small Business Advocate of the Month award for sponsoring and garnering the votes required to pass the Paperwork and Regulatory Improvement Act, legislation to hold government accountable for reducing the regulatory burden on American employers.
Ose has been a strong proponent of keeping America safe and secure by supporting President Bush’s war on terrorism, making sure our armed forces are fully equipped and holding government accountable for fulfilling its promise to care and provide for our nation’s veterans. As a result of Ose’s commitment to the American solder, he was honored by receiving the American Legion Certificate of Appreciation.
Ose has been a strong supporter of protecting America’s borders by supporting legislation that increased border agents and investments in new security equipment and technology. When radical environmental groups abused the legal system to stop a California-Mexico border fence from being built, Ose introduced a legislative amendment that waived environmental restrictions on the project so that construction of the fence could resume and stop high traffic border crossings.
My hope is that you will join me and more than 50 local elected officials in supporting Doug Ose, the right conservative for District 4.
