Pee Wee makes championship game

The South Tahoe Viking Jr. Pee Wee advanced to the Sagebrush League Championship Game with a 40-34 win against the Reno Wolf Pack in Sparks on Saturday. The Vikings were led on offense by Tyler Wattanachina, James Knudson, Henry Vacakis, Zach Pexa, and Kody Griffis with a rushing attack that could not be stopped. The offensive line (Troy Gerrard, Giovanni Fena, Logan Field, Colby Glaze, Gunner Barnwell, Drake Lathrope, and Trent Dingman) had their best game. The boys opened holes for the Vikings’ backs to run through.

“This was our toughest opponent to date, we had our hands full but our kids never stopped,” head coach Sean Griffis said in an email.

The biggest play of the game happened late in the fourth quarter with the score 33-27. Facing a fourth and 15 on the 30, Henry completed a long touchdown pass to Wattanachina to put the Vikings up 40-27 and seal the game.

The boys will play the championship game at University Nevada at Reno’s football stadium Sunday at 1 p.m. A win means they will advance to the regional championship game in Santa Clara.
