Prescribed fire operations to take place on south, west shores

Provided to the Tribune

U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews will conduct two prescribed fire operations today.

The operations will take place near Taylor Creek on Lake Tahoe’s South Shore and on Alice Lane in the Meeks Bay area of the West Shore. Each area is about one-quarter acre. On Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, prescribed fire operations will take place in the Timberland area of the West Shore, weather permitting.

Residents and visitors can expect to see smoke from this prescribed fire project area. USFS advises smoke-sensitive residents to stay indoors and keeping doors, windows and outside vents closed.

Forest Service staff will post road signs around areas affected by prescribed fire, and update the local fire information line at 530-543-2600, No. 6. Other federal, state and local fire management agencies may also be conducting prescribed fire work during this period.
