Prescription drug take back next weekend

Tribune staff report

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Douglas County Partnership of Community Resources, will conduct a prescription drug roundup on Sept. 29.

The purpose of the event is to get unused or unwanted prescription medications out of home medicine cabinets where they can be stolen and abused. Prescription medicine can also end up in the local water table and contaminate the water supply and environment.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration sponsored event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at five locations throughout Douglas County, including the Safeway Supermarket at 212 Elks Point Road in Round Hill.

Citizens can bring their unwanted or unused prescription medications to the locations and drop them off safely and confidentially, with no questions asked. Any identifying information on the pill bottle or container should be marked out in advance.
