Resignation leaves vacancy on utility board

Susan Wood, Tahoe Daily Tribune

Cathie Becker has resigned from the South Tahoe Public Utility District board effective June 1.

The district will advertise for candidates to fill her seat, which she won during the November 2001 election. STPUD will hold elections in November.

The longtime South Shore resident has taken a real estate job in Bend, Ore.

“It’s an offer I can’t refuse. I regret I’m leaving after just one year because I was just beginning to learn. But I wasn’t doing any job very well by trying to be here and trying to be there,” said Becker, who has commuted back and forth between the states since August. “I’ve listened to more books on tapes than I ever thought I would.”

She plans to return to South Lake Tahoe to visit her dog, Baxter.

“I’ve left Tahoe before and I’ll come back,” Becker said, echoing a sentiment heard from many people in town.

“It was with regret that we accepted Cathie’s resignation, but we realize that life presents many opportunities that must be acted upon quickly, and this business opportunity falls into that category,” STPUD board President James Jones said.

Interested parties may contact Kathy Sharp, clerk of the board, at (530) 544-6474, ext. 203.
